Wicomico County Executive Culver Pulls ALL Non Law Enforcement Take Home Vehicles

County Executive Bob Culver has directed us to undertake a review of the entire county vehicle fleet. Included therein is justification by department of the necessity for every take home car. Justification must originate and be confirmed by signature of the department head, to include specific travel requirements of the position held by the employee to whom a vehicle is currently assigned. This information is to be returned to the Executive’s Office not later than Monday, December 22nd for all non-law enforcement personnel. All county vehicles, with the exception of law enforcement, are subject to remain parked effective December 31st. No county vehicle will be used for business or personal travel beginning January 1st without the expressed permission of the County Executive. A process of signing out vehicles will be forthcoming prior to January 1st.

After Seven Years We Might Just See Justice For The Sheriff's Department

Eight years ago the Voters of Wicomico County agreed to collective bargaining for the F.O.P. / Sheriffs Department. Along with that commitment, Deputies were encouraged that they'd be covered for pension and disability, something in which former County Executive Rick Politt left out for the time being.

Seven years later your new County Executive Bob Culver brought forth his commitment to fulfill the Voters choice by bringing this forward to the County Council TODAY. Now let's see IF the Council Members YOU elected finally fulfill their commitment to the Voters and the F.O.P.

With any real hope we just might see the passage of such legislation today and we can finally put this to rest. Agree with it or not, like it or not, the Voters agreed to such protection through a referendum EIGHT years ago and it's time this Council delivers.

Today's Survey Question 12-18-14

Do you agree with Obama's changes with Cuba?

Wicomico County Council Tables F.O.P. Vote Again

At least two of the new County Council members would like additional time to go over the pension and disability agreement before casting a final vote on the matter.

Marty Fisher from the F.O.P. kind of put his foot in his mouth by stating they would file a lawsuit by Friday if they didn't go through with it today, dumb move.

Its not as if the Council doesn't agree with what is on the table, they just want to study it a little more and deliver what they promised during their campaigns.

The County has settled an agreement with the F.O.P. so the deal is pretty much done. Marty should have remained patient and understood, (or should I say, respected) the new Council Members positions.

We should see a final agreement very soon.

Salisbury's most infamous fake homeless guy, Nic Parks, still at it.

And What Will You Do Mayor Ireton, Arrest US Instead?

Salisbury has now placed a sign in the median strip at Sam's Club / WalMart on Rt. 13 North telling you, "DON'T CONTRIBUTE TO SOLICITORS"

So are we now to believe WE will be arrested for doing so, yet NO "solicitors" have been arrested. This Mayor is a complete IDIOT.

I can see it now, Salisbury Police Officers chasing after people making donations to the Salvation Army through the parking lots too. I hope this time they won't chase down 14 year old kids and beat the crap out of them on Rt. 13 again.

Fire Dept's 'Happy Birthday Jesus' Ignites Atheists

A Christmas-themed sign outside of a firehouse in Utica, New York, is drawing the ire of atheists, who argue that its message poses a constitutional violation.

The placard, which is on display at the Utica Fire Department Station 4, reads, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS WE LOVE YOU” — a message that the Freedom From Religion Foundation is demanding be immediately taken down, according to a press release from the atheist organization.

In a letter sent to Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri on December 10, the group once again made its case against the sign, calling it illegal “religious endorsement.” This follows a previous note that the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent to fire chief Russell Brooks in April 2014 after “a concerned area resident” reached out to the group.

But Brooks ignored the earlier demands, noting that a conservative legal firm had given the firehouse legal standing to display the sign after the American Civil Liberties Union waged a similar complaint in 2007.

DISH Refuses to Carry WBOC and FOX 21 as of New Year's Day 2015

SALISBURY, Md.- WBOC and FOX 21, the local CBS and FOX affiliates found on Channels 16 and 21, on Friday announced that despite prolonged negotiations, it appears that DISH is unwilling to carry the stations past the end of its current contract. As a result, both WBOC and FOX 21 will no longer be seen on DISH as of Jan. 1, 2015.

“We are simply seeking a fair deal, which adequately values our number-one-rated and award-winning news, sports, entertainment, and weather programming that is paramount to our local viewers,” said Craig Jahelka, WBOC's and FOX 21's vice president and general manager. “In fact, for both of our stations, we are asking for far less than what DISH pays for other channels. And we cannot in good conscience offer DISH our signals for free, knowing that they charge their customers for them."

WBOC's and FOX 21's long-term agreement with DISH expires on Dec. 31, 2014. Unfortunately, WBOC and FOX 21 cannot force DISH to strike a deal to keep the stations' programming on its channel lineup after that deadline.

Publishers Notes: In my honest opinion, FOX should be cancelling their contract with WBOC anyway. WBOC is a LIBERAL News Station, period. I watched BOTH shows last week at one time. I flipped from one WBOC station to the other and they were broadcasting the exact same information.

I have also noticed an extremely higher volume of commercials any more. I'd guestimate we're only getting about 12 minutes worth of news these days while being subjected to a ton of car dealership commercials.

The above information seems to be a yearly event with DISH Network and WBOC. To me, it's all about selling commercials and NOT representing conservative views.

BREAKING NEWS: 1 NYPD officer dead, 1 critically injured after shooting

DEVELOPING: A New York City police officer was killed and a second officer was in critical condition Saturday after they were shot as they sat inside a patrol car.

The attack took place in Brooklyn at around 3 p.m., the New York Daily News reported.

“The perp came out of the houses, walked up behind the car and lit them up,” a high-ranking police official told the Daily News.

An NYPD spokesman confirmed to Fox News that two officers were shot in the incident and were immediately moved to a nearby hospital. Police later told The Associated Press that one of the officers had been pronounced dead.

Oldest U.S. Black College On Verge of Financial Collapse

The nation's oldest black college, Cheyney University, one of Pennsylvania's 14 state-run universities, is on the verge of a financial meltdown that threatens its ability to continue operating, a state official said on Wednesday.

Cheyney's student body has shrunk by two-thirds, to about 1,000, since its 1983 peak, and its four-year graduation rate is just 9 percent. A quarter of students never receive a degree, and student loan defaults are high.

"Cheyney is in dire, dire, dire straits," the state's auditor general, Eugene DePasquale, said. The university has had a deficit for four of the last five years, growing to a cumulative $12.3 million shortfall as of June 30, 2013.

Cheyney's fiscal problems - students who are unable to repay debt and increasing pension costs - were exacerbated by cutbacks in state higher education funding.

DePasquale called upon the State System of Higher Education - the governing body for the state-owned universities - and the legislature to help Cheyney find a way out of "a vicious, destructive cycle" in which declining enrollment and state funding leads to less money for investments that could attract much-needed students.

Cheyney, located in the Philadelphia suburb of the same name, was founded in 1837 after Quaker philanthropist Richard Humphreys bequeathed part of his estate to build a school to educate descendents of the African race, according to the university's website.

Michelle Obama: Asking a stranger for help at the store is racist

Who hasn’t ever been mistaken for an employee of some store or restaurant?

Bad news from Michelle Obama: if you’ve ever asked a stranger for help reaching something at the store, you’re a racist.

from Politico:

Barack and Michelle Obama are sharing their own personal experiences with racial prejudice, saying they’ve been mistaken for valet drivers and Target employees — the latter even occurring during their time at the White House.

“The only person who came up to me in the [Target] store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn’t see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her,” Michelle Obama told People magazine, recalling a trip she made to Target, according to excerpts released Wednesday.

Tempers Flare As Liquor Board Hikes Retail Prices

County commissioners past and present crossed swords over a proposed rate increase in retail pricing at the Worcester County Liquor Control Board stores.

“In our situation we need to increase revenue or cut expenses. We’ve made seven cuts in administration and the warehouse. We’ve made all the cuts. We need to generate more revenue,” Robert “Bobby” Cowger Jr. told the commissioners during their regular Tuesday meeting.

Effective immediately, all 1.75-liter products will increase in price by one dollar. All bottles of wine will increase in price by $.50. On Jan. 1, all products 50 ml in volume or greater will increase in price by $.50, and the “split case” charge for licensees will increase from $.50 per bottle to $.75 per bottle.

Michelle Obama Recently Cited Alleged Example of Racism at Target — Her Story Sounded Pretty Different When She Told It in 2013

Watch the relevant portion at 4:40 the mark

Appearing on “Late Show” with David Letterman in 2013, First Lady Michelle Obama also told the story of how a woman once asked her for help getting something off a shelf. It’s the same story she told in a recent interview with People magazine, in which she seemingly suggested race played a role in the woman’s solicitation of her assistance.

However, her story seemingly lacked the racial undertones when she told it to Letterman last year.

“I went to Target. I thought I was undercover. I have to tell you something about this trip though,” she said. “No one knew that was me because a woman actually walked up to me, right, I was in the detergent isle and she said — I kid you not — she said, ‘excuse me, I just have to ask you something.’ And I thought, ‘cover’s blown.’ She said, ‘Can you reach on that shelf and hand me the detergent?’ I kid you not!”

Then she added some context.

“And the only thing she said — I reached up because she was short — and I reached up and pulled it down and she said, ‘Well, you didn’t have to make it look so easy.’ That was interaction, I feel so good. She had no idea who I was.”

Superintendent Fredericksen on Delay of West Salisbury Elementary

In the interest of transparency, please allow me to share some details for Wicomico County residents concerning the Dec. 2 Wicomico County Council vote to approve the County Executive’s revised bond bill. In this revised bond bill, the $1.25 million to draft plans for the replacement of West Salisbury Elementary School was eliminated.

County bond funding for planning would have helped demonstrate local support for this important project, for which state planning approval is pending. We can leverage local dollars to get substantial State dollars to help build the schools our students, teachers, and families need, but only if we have local support.

We anticipate at least a year’s delay now in beginning the design of plans for this project as a result of the decision to remove funding from the bond bill. That does not change the fact that West Salisbury Elementary students, staff and families need the improvements this project will bring:

  • Access to current instructional technology
  • An environment conducive to learning
  • Increased space for student learning and staff services
  • Improved operational efficiencies
  • Enhanced safety and security for all students and staff

Taliban 'burn teacher alive in front of pupils and behead children'

According to a NBC News report, citing an unnamed military official, the terrorists stormed the Army Public school in Peshawar, in north-west Pakistan, and committed the horrific act as well as detonating a suicide bomb which killed a number of students.

"They burnt a teacher in front of the students in a classroom," the unnamed military source told the US TV network.

"They literally set the teacher on fire with gasoline and made the kids watch."

At least six militants entered the Pakistani school wearing security uniforms, before massacring an estimated 132 people and injuring another 122.

We've decided not to move forward: Sony CANCELS the release of The Interview after the majority of theaters chose not to show it

The federal government confirmed on Wednesday that North Korea was behind the massive hack that saw the release of thousands of internal emails from Sony over the past two weeks.

This as Sony Pictures Entertainment pulled the planned Christmas Day release of The Interview after hackers threatened 9/11-like terror attacks on cinemas showing its North Korea comedy.

What's more, the film may never be released at all.

'Sony Pictures has no further release plans for the film,' said a spokesperson for the studio Wednesday evening.

This despite the fact that the film cost $42million to make and tens of millions to market.

Almost immediately, many in Hollywood voiced their concern, with writer Aaron Sorkin saying how upset he was that 'the U.S. succumbed to an unprecedented attack on our most cherished, bedrock principle of free speech by a group of North Korean terrorists,' and director Judd Apatow explaining the many problems this means for films moving forward.

WCBOE's John Fredericksen Tells It Like It Isn't ... Again

Wicomico Public Schools superintendent John Fredericksen fancies himself a politician.  He uses tax dollars to implement a (usually unsuccessful) grass roots lobbying effort to obtain more money to spend.  He also doesn’t hesitate changing positions at a moment’s notice.  Today’s op-ed by Fredericksen (along with the typically courageous stance of the Daily Times) provide more evidence that our county and state elected officials need to exercise great caution when dealing with Fredericksen and the Wicomico County Board of Education (BOE).

Fredericksen implies that Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver lied to the public by claiming that a replacement for West Salisbury Elementary School was not in the capital improvement plan:
This is a project that has been in the works for many years. Additions to West Salisbury Elementary were recommended 16 years ago in the 1998 Seidel Commission Report. Plans for a West Salisbury Elementary project have been in the Capital Improvement Plan and "future plans" section of the Facilities Master Plan each year since the Fiscal Year 2001 report — some 14 years ago. These reports go to the Board of Education and County Council each year and are available to the public.
This is a typical “bait and switch” which Fredericksen loves to foist on a plain speaking public.  Culver was correct.  The county’s capital improvement plan (CIP) does not include replacing West Salisbury for most of those years.  It is not Culvers fault if the BOE did not submit a request or if the county council did not approve every capital request from the BOE.  Wicomico County would be bankrupt if it did.

Here is where Fredericksen switches horses:

Sony says theaters they can pull The Interview after terrorist threats

The New York premiere of the Sony movie that is at the center of its hacking crisis has been cancelled after it was threatened with a terrorist attack.

Screenings of the movie have also been cancelled at thousands of theaters across the country.

Early Tuesday, the hacking group Guardians of Peace, who have been systematically releasing email correspondence and leaking films after breaking into Sony's internal system, claimed an event similar to '11th of September 2001' would occur at theaters showing the film.

North Korean hackers are believed to be behind the cyber attack and now terrorist threat, angered over the film which tells the story of two men who travel to the secretive communist nation to kill leader, Kim Jong-un.

The Carmike Cinemas chain, which operates 278 theaters in 41 states, is now the first chain who will not be showing the film when it opens.

California's ArcLight cinemas. whose Hollywood location is one of the most famed and popular theaters in the country, will also not be showing the film.

Also backing out is Landmark Cinemas, who have now cancelled the film's New York premiere which was scheduled for Thursday at the famed Sunshine Cinema in the city's Lower East Side.

Perdue secrets and the Chesapeake Bay: By Ray Wallace

PERDUE SECRETS:

These “biosecure poultry operations” (or, as you or I would call them, “farms”), where most of the chickens we eat are raised, are totally inaccessible to people outside the industry. And once you see what’s inside them, oh wow, does that desire for secrecy make total sense....

That “USDA Process Verified” label isn’t an inspection program. It’s a marketing program that allows producers to make claims and create certification logos without actually having their farms inspected or verified.

-- From “Perdue Execs Are Probably *Terrified* That This Video Exists. Too Bad,” by Melissa Gilkey, at this current Upworthy site:

THE CHESAPEAKE BAY:

When Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) hits his last few days in office next month, he plans to enact dramatic new regulations for farmers who use chicken droppings to fertilize their fields....

The new regulations focus on phosphorus, a nutrient found in the tons of chicken litter produced by the Eastern Shore’s poultry industry, which is anchored by the processing giant Perdue Farms. Although phosphorus is necessary for plant development, if it is not absorbed by crops or retained in the soil, it can seep into the local waterways and travel to the bay....

Phosphorus, along with another manure ingredient, nitrogen, have been blamed for seriously polluting the bay and contributing to the formation of oxygen-deprived “dead zones.” Environmentalists warn that major action is needed now and cannot be delayed.

-- From “Pending chicken manure regulations fan debate in Md.,” by Jenna Johnson, at this December 14, 2014 Washington Post site:

Gas Station Owners Aren’t Passing Their Savings On To Consumers

You may have noticed prices gradually falling at your neighborhood gas station over the last few months, what you may not know is that the price of oil has been falling even faster than that. Why aren’t station owners passing the savings on to drivers? They’re in a generally low-margin business, and we’re all still buying gas anyway.

Gas costs about a dollar less nationwide right now than it did a year ago, which is putting more money in consumers’ pockets for other things, and making drivers more cheerful in general. The problem is, while that’s a nice decrease, oil prices are down about 40% since earlier this year. The price that we pay for gasoline hasn’t kept up with that. During that same period, investment bank Goldman Sachs estimates that gas stations’ profit margins are 18.5% higher than they were at the same time last year.

Unconventional Approach to Calming Traffic in Salisbury Neighborhood

Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr., today unveiled a new, perhaps less-than-conventional approach to slowing speeders on City streets. Signs urging drivers to “Drive like your kids live here” have been installed at several locations on Middle, and North Boulevards. Mayor Ireton considers the signs just one part of a larger, holistic approach to calming traffic patterns on Salisbury surface streets.

“As we have improved infrastructure in this area of the city – including paving in much of the neighborhood – it became clear that residents needed drivers to slow down. In addition to “SLOW” signs painted on the new blacktop, we decided to think outside the box with these signs. By referencing the safety of children and families, we hope to connect with drivers on a personal level,” said Mayor Ireton.

Watch What Happens When a 76-Year-Old Man Is Confronted By Police for Not Displaying a Vehicle Inspection Sticker

Police in Victoria, Texas, placed an officer on administrative duty pending an investigation after an altercation with a 76-year-old man who didn’t have an inspection sticker on his car.

Victoria resident Pete Vasquez pulled over at the Adams Auto Mart, where he helps with mechanical work, when the officer, 23-year-old Nathanial Robinson, got out of his patrol car and confronted him. The 76-year-old is seen on dashcam video pointing to the dealer license plate on the back of the car.

The Victoria Advocate newspaper reported that Vasquez told Robinson the vehicle was exempt from requiring an inspection sticker because it still had dealer tags. Police chief Jeffrey Craig later confirmed to the paper that the vehicle was, in fact, exempt.

Unbelievable! Obama wants followers to skimp on charity and give to his ‘organizers’ instead

During this season of giving, there are so many great charities to choose from it can be tough to decide.

OR you can donate to the charity of our president’s choice.

In an unbelievable act of selfishness, the ego-in-chief has asked his supporters on Twitter to donate to his “charity,” Organizing For Action.

Obama Commutes Sentences of Eight Nonviolent Drug Offenders

President Barack Obama is cutting short the sentences of eight federal drug offenders, including four who were set to die in prison, as part of a new initiative to reduce harsh sentences for nonviolent crimes.

Sidney Earl Johnson Jr., Rickey Marcell McCall, Larry Nailor and Israel Abel Torres had received life sentences and were going to die behind bars. Their commutations, and those of four others who were convicted of drug crimes, mean they'll all be released in 2015, The Huffington Post reports.

Obama has now commuted the sentences of 18 people, which a White House official noted was more than either President Ronald Reagan or President George W. Bush, the Huffington Post reports.

The clemency policy changes aren't limited to drug offenders, who compose about half of the roughly 216,000 federal prisoners, but the criteria make it clear they are the main targets.
