A Viewer Writes: WHY WASN'T A WARRANT ISSUED TO INSPECT THE HORSE FARM?

Joe,

I "stumbled" across this News on the Internet and found its' strong 'similarity to the Horse Farm incident. You will note this abuse of farm animals took place in MD & a warrant was issued by the Humane Society ,who'd received numerous calls. Thank God for people calling in to report and the Humane Society getting them help or many more of these animals would have starved to death.

After reading this and even before I read this--my question is --Why could the Sheriffs Dept . not have done the same thing and issued a warrant to go on the Pilchard's property? The Sheriff Dept. , knowing of past abuse to cats and horses there before and the continuation of calls from neighbors of the animals getting out to eat grass was enough for them to respond and Search the premises.
I believe this was a horrific lack of responsibility on "their part !"

BOONSBORO, Md. (WJZ) — A horrible case of alleged animal cruelty uncovered at a Maryland farm. Officials seize nearly 100 animals they say were malnourished and neglected.
Rick Ritter has more on this disturbing case.
Officials at the Humane Society say the property owner faces more than 300 animal cruelty charges and call the conditions the worst they’ve ever seen.
Ribs showing, mucky water left to drink and bones scattered across fields–just some of the disturbing pictures from an alleged animal cruelty case.
“I actually felt like I was watching something off a TV,” said Crystal Mowery, field service officer, Humane Society.
This is One that’s raising eyebrows across the state.
“I have 25 years in the field of animal welfare and this was devastating,” said Kimberley Intino, chief executive officer, Humane Society.
After numerous calls and a tip, the Washington County Humane Society served a search warrant at 60-year-old Daniel Rohrer Jr.’s farm.
Charging documents describe “dire conditions,” stating animals were spotted dead as soon as officers entered the barn.
“I specifically asked about the dead carcasses. Their comment was they lay where they die,” Mowery said.
Bones and decomposing animals in various stages were scattered throughout. Goats and sheep found with severely overgrown hooves.
Outside, there was no food for the animals. Officer Mowery says pictures shed only a glimpse before they seized cows, sheep and goats–95 total.
“There was manure and feces everywhere,” said Mowery.
WJZ got in touch with the defendant’s attorney, who says her client disputes all charges.
“Regardless of whether he has animals as pets or food animals ,the Law requires that you treat themproperly,” said Intino.
“The Humane Society has already invested a lot of money into taking care of these animals and we still have a few months before criminal trial. We are appealing to the community for any donations so we can continue this work and help these animals and the over 6,000 animals that come through our doors over the year,” Intino said.

All of the animals seized were moved to local foster farms

There were no milk crates fro Limelight Lewis to stand on so he could see over the fence. Didn't see, no crime. Besides the horses and people did not have any money that could be subject to civil forfeiture.

Cruelty to animals should have a penalty that sticks.

I hope that this becomes a spot where people can report animal abuse because it takes so many calls for the same offense it seems like the HSociety is out doing something....but I'm not sure what. The neighbors had to call about a dead horse laying feet in the air time and time again (so I am told) before the HS could get the owner to do anything with the body. I just cannot imagine treating a pet that way.

Makes me sick to think some of the
deceased horses could have been saved.

So what will the County do with
this Case of abuse?

8:29 Yes, and the Public should let our
Representatives know how disgusting
this is to let abuse continue on and
the abuser get off with it! Makes
me sick to think about it and sicker
to think about "those" who let them off!
